I’m Virginia Gunawan, a multimedia journalist who is passionate about stories that bridge cultures, deepen understanding, and hold power to account.
With over a decade of experience reporting for global audiences, I’ve covered everything from U.S. politics and international diplomacy to community voices often left out of the headlines. Most recently, I worked as a multimedia journalist and White House correspondent in Washington, D.C., combining on-camera reporting with field producing, live interviews, and narrative storytelling.
But I don’t just report stories, I help others tell theirs. As a journalism instructor and media trainer, I’ve led workshops for aspiring reporters. I also take on freelance editing and script consulting projects, which keep me creatively sharp and connected to new voices.
Born in Indonesia and now based in the Washington, D.C. area, I work fluently in English and Bahasa Indonesia. I love working on projects that connect the global and the local, especially those exploring democracy, identity, and the human impact of policy.
Outside the newsroom, you’ll find me experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, crocheting one too many half-finished projects, or hosting offline events with my Fulbright local chapter.
